The Fircom Challenge is a one-day hiking adventure that raises money to make summer camp financially accessible for all children and families. Participants raise pledges then partake in a challenging hike on Vancouver’s North Shore.
What’s it for?
The Fircom Challenge raises money for the Fircom campership fund. This fund provides summer camp subsidies for families for whom camp is otherwise financially inaccessible. In 2018, 10% of all campers relied on campership subsidies to attend. As the cost of living the lower mainland continues to rise, we continue to see a great need for this financial support. Participants in the Fircom Challenge ensure that our camp programs are financially accessible to all.
Who can participate?
Just about anyone! Participants can join as individuals or as a team and should be able to hike for approximately five hours. As a fundraiser, individual participants are asked to fundraise $200, and teams should aim for $500. We ask that anyone under 16 be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Kids are welcome, as long as they're proven hikers.
How does the fundraising work?
Participants commit to raising $200 in pledges from their friends, families and colleagues. We will help you with pointers on how to connect with your community, provide template emails, feature you on Fircom’s social media and help you meet your target in as many ways possible. $200 sounds like a lot, but we know once you get going, you'll surprise yourself at how easy it is to fundraise for a cause you believe in. All the money we raise goes directly to helping kids and families who wouldn't otherwise be able to afford it to come to camp. We hear every year from these families how important Fircom is in their lives.
We also know that a little incentive can go a long way so we award the top fundraising team with a weekend stay in the beautiful 12-person Cottage and the top fundraising individual with an off-season weekend in the cozy 4-person Farmhouse!
