The Fircom Challenge is a one-day hiking adventure that raises money to make summer camp financially accessible for all children and families. Participants raise pledges then partake in a challenging hike on Vancouver’s North Shore.
Time & Date: 9:30am, Sat Sept 14, 2019
Place: BCMC Trail, Grouse Mountain
Level of Difficulty: Difficult (but short!)
Time to Hike: 1.5 Hours
What’s it for?
The Fircom Challenge raises money for the Fircom campership fund. This fund provides summer camp subsidies for families for whom camp is otherwise financially inaccessible. As the cost of living the lower mainland continues to rise, we continue to see a great need for this financial support. Participants in the Fircom Challenge ensure that our camp programs are financially accessible to all.
Who can participate?
Just about anyone! Participants can join as individuals or as a team and should be comfortable with an intense but short hike. Have you done the Grouse Grind? You can do this hike! Don’t think you’ll know anyone? Don’t worry about it! The morning will kick off with name games and some campy fun times, so everyone will get to know each other.
As a fundraiser, all participants are given the tools to succeed in meeting their fundraising goal. It’s amazing how many friends and family members will jump at the chance to support something you’re excited about. Kids are more than welcome to come along if they are up for the challenge! (Unfortunately the BCMC Trail is not dog friendly so you’ll have to leave your furry friends behind).
How does the fundraising work?
As a part of registering for the hike, participants will get their own online fundraising webpage. Set a goal, post some photos and you’re ready to direct your friends, family, and new acquaintances. Participants can also collect cash or cheque donations and log them through this online portal.
We will help you with pointers on how to connect with your community, provide template emails, feature you on Fircom’s social media and help you meet your target in as many ways possible. Once you get going, you'll surprise yourself at how easy it is to fundraise for a cause you believe in! All the money we raise goes directly to helping kids and families who wouldn't otherwise be able to afford it to come to camp. We hear every year from these families how important Fircom is in their lives.
We also know that a little incentive can go a long way so we award the top fundraising team with a weekend stay in the beautiful 12-person Cottage and the top fundraising individual with an off-season weekend in the cozy 4-person Farmhouse!
All hikers will be entered in a draw to win a sweet Fircom swag bag!
