Facilities Department

Assistant Facilities & Maintenance Manager


Camp Fircom is looking for individuals with the aptitude and drive to succeed as our Assistant Facilities Manager! This is a live on-site position and is suited for those looking to spend 5 days a week on Gambier Island, a 120 acre ocean-front property in the Howe Sound.

Qualified applicants, including those with partners/spouses, are encouraged to apply and we are open to discussing work and living situations. Accommodations are also provided.

Our property is mixed use, functioning as a Summer Camp and Retreat Center. Individuals looking to apply would have an interest and experience working in facilities and maintenance. As an off-grid property our small but efficient site department manages everything from small repairs, power generation, volunteers, small design builds, systems monitoring and reporting.

The scope of this position is broad and although a breadth of experience is preferred, applicants with the desire to learn more about facilities and maintenance are encouraged to apply.

Facilities & Maintenance Manager

Camp Fircom is a beautiful summer camp and retreat centre on rural, Gambier Island in the Howe Sound. Camp Fircom has been serving campers and guests from the Lower Mainland for 96 years. We are looking for a new Facilities and Maintenance Manager to join our team! This role will work and live at our camp five days per week. If desired they can live year-round at camp for free. Fircom is a 20-minute water taxi ride from Horseshoe Bay, West Vancouver.

Camp Fircom is busy of seven months with groups and camps (Apr to Oct) and then has a five-month quiet season. The right candidate will enjoy self-directed projects in the winter months while also enjoy the bustling times of the summer months.

If you are interested in sustainability, woodworking, farming, this could be your dream job. Camp Fircom is an off-grid facility running its own artisanal well, solar renewable energy system, and organic farm and orchard and has a lovely big, new shop.

Kitchen staff

Jr Sous Chef

Come be a part of the dynamic Fircom kitchen team! Our kitchen prides itself on quality and nutritious food. We take great care to meet dietary allergies and needs for our guests while they are at camp. This position fills the gap of a change over of a Maternity Leave.

The position goes from July till October and is a key part of the leadership of the kitchen. We are looking for an experienced and reliable candidate. Could this be you? Senior Prep Cook

Are you an experienced prep cook looking for the experience of a lifetime? This position starts mid July and has a flexible ending time of late September or early October. A seasonal position but great way to try out a future potential seasonal job at camp. Perks are having access to waterfront, hiking trails, kayaks, delicious food and a great community of fellow staff. Come spend your time living the island life. Volunteering is an amazing way to get out of the city, connect with a welcoming community and know your effort is going towards making once in a lifetime experiences possible for youth and families


Summer Camp Volunteering

DATES: We welcome volunteers for a variety of time periods, from 3 days to multiple weeks.
AGES: 16+
COST: Free with water taxi and food included

Available Positions:

Ages 16+

Throughout the summer our exceptional team of volunteers ensure that camp runs super smoothly. These are some of the volunteer roles we fill during the summer:

  • Camp Nurse: Responsible for being the on-call first aid attendant for the camp session, and for administering all medications. Certification required: Registered Nurse

  • Scamper Volunteer: Assists with the programming for our youngest campers (ages 6-7). Lives in Craigcroft accommodation with them.

  • General Volunteer: Excited to assist with tasks as needed! Whether playing soccer with a cabin group or cleaning the dining hall, you’re a get-it-done kind of person.

All volunteers are required to submit a criminal record background check, and additional certifications where applicable.
