The Fircom, First United Connection Continues

As summer camp came to a close on Aug 18th, the Fircom Farm was suddenly facing an abundance of amazing produce - without anywhere to go!

At the end of this summer we were faced with an empty week on the rentals calendar, right as the summer harvest reached its peak.

Our amazing interim farmer, Glen, gathered boxes and boxes of tomatoes, beans, cucumbers, and more. Bright and early this morning, these boxes were delivered to First United’s meal service kitchen in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside.

Camp Fircom’s history with First United, goes way back to our founding in 1923. The name, Fircom is a combination of First Presbyterian (forerunner to First United) and Community Services (the forerunner to Youth & Family Services). These two organizations came together to create a sanctuary for struggling families to escape the city.

Today, First United provides programs and services to meet the needs of street-involved people in the Downtown Eastside. They provide shelter & social housing, a meal program, legal advocacy, a community ministry, and more. You can learn more about their amazing work on their website: https://firstunited.ca

We are so thrilled that all this organic produce is going to another great home! We hope they enjoy the veggies!
