Positions for our 2024 Operating Season:

Lifeguard: STILL ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS

Summary of Position: Working in collaboration with the Head Lifeguard and a fellow Lifeguard, the Lifeguard is responsible for the safe operation of the waterfront for all age groups. From supervising free swim, to taking campers out on kayaks, paddle boards, canoes, and big canoes, every day is a day on the beach in this position! A desire to teach kids how to safely paddle and play in the ocean is a must. This position works in collaboration with the Program & Waterfront team to coordinate the behind the scenes logistics that lead to a successful waterfront experience for campers and guests. This includes daily waterfront safety inspections, the delivery of waterfront safety talks, instruction on paddling and watercraft safety, and conducting swim tests for children and youth at the beginning of every Summer Camp session.

This is a full-time position during the summer months (July 14 to August 16). As such, the successful candidate is required to live on site during this time period. Additional work in the spring and summer months may be available depending on the staffing needs of the organization.

Camp Counsellor - NO LONGER ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS
The heart and soul of summer camp!

Summary of Position: Camp Counsellors make magic happen all summer for campers (ages 6-15) by romping through the forest and providing mentorship for their group. Each week, Sunday to Friday, counsellors live at camp and spend almost 24 hours a day with their campers. They help plan and lead hands-on, spiritually-enriching, and ridiculous activities for children so they can embrace their authentic selves while overcoming challenges and exploring their interests. Camp Counsellors are mature, creative, and nurturing individuals that are capable of providing each child with a safe, supportive, and memorable camp experience. Lots of energy and a love of nature are a must! Camp Fircom welcomes campers from all faiths and backgrounds. We focus on creating communities of belonging by connecting with nature and having joyous fun every day.

Living Arrangements: Camp Counsellors reside in cabins or Sibley tents with their campers. Meals are provided. Counsellors from out of town can be accommodated in one of the cabins during the intervals between each week of camp, and between training and the start date of camp.

Guest Experience Host - NO LONGER ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS

Summary of Position: The Guest Experience Host is responsible for all aspects of our guests’ successful and enjoyable experience on site, and includes tasks related to housekeeping, hospitality (customer service) and programming.

This position is a full-time, 40 hour per week position during the summer months (June 26th through to Labour Day weekend in September). As such, the successful candidate is required to live on site during this time period. During the months of September and October, this position is part-time (minimum 16 hours per week) based on the staffing needs of the organization. A schedule for each month will be provided to the successful candidate by the 15th day of the month previous (i.e., the work schedule for July will be provided by June 15th).

Camp Cook - STILL ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS

Summary of Position: Working with the Head Chef & Food Service Director, the Camp Cook will be responsible for ensuring the smooth day-to-day operations of the Food Service Department. The Camp Cook will provide leadership and mentorship to junior staff members of the kitchen team and any volunteers that are working in the kitchen. The Camp Cook will work 5 days per week.

This position is full-time, 40 hours per week from April 26th through to September 2nd, 2024. As such, the successful candidate is required to live on site during this time period. During the month of September, this is a part-time position, minimum 20 hours per week, with hours per week depending on bookings and staffing needs. A schedule for each month will be provided to the successful candidate by the 15th day of the month previous (i.e., the work schedule for July will be provided by June 15th).

Prep Cook/Disher - STILL ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS

Summary of Position: Working with the Head Chef, Food Service Director & Coordinator, Camp Cook and Kitchen Dishers, the Prep Cook/Kitchen Disher will be responsible for ensuring the smooth day-to-day operations of the Food Service Department. Their tasks will include: assisting with meal preparation and plating; the cleaning and sanitization of all dishes and equipment used by the kitchen team to prepare and cook meals; the cleaning and sanitization of dishes used by guests, staff and volunteers during meals as part of our Food Service offering; and, overseeing the proper use and care of the waste management system - composting, recycling, etc.

This position is a full-time, 40 hour per week position during the summer season (June 26 through to September 2). As such, the successful candidate is required to live on site during this time period. During the months of May, June, September and early October, this position will be employed on weekends on a casual part-time basis, with work hours dependent upon guest bookings and staffing needs. A schedule for each month will be provided to the successful candidate by the 15th day of the month previous (i.e., the work schedule for May will be provided by April 15th).

Program Coordinator: POSITION FILLED

Summary of Position: The Program Coordinator is responsible for assisting the Program & Waterfront Director with the planning, preparing and leading of all of Camp Fircom’s recreation activities that set Camp Fircom apart as a Summer Camp destination. As well, this position works in collaboration with the Program & Waterfront Director to coordinate the behind the scenes logistics that lead to a successful overall camper, volunteer and staff experience. This includes: training staff to lead games, songs and recreation and team-building activities; organizing arrival and departure days for Summer Camp sessions; in collaboration with the Program & Waterfront Director, creating activity schedules for all Summer Camp sessions; and, ensuring the maintenance of all recreational equipment and replacement of damaged recreational equipment.

This is a full-time, 40+ hour position during the summer months (June 24 to July 2, 2024; July 14 to August 16, 2024). As such, the successful candidate is required to live on site during these time periods. During the spring and fall months, there are opportunities to work during the following sessions (depending on the successful candidate’s availability):

  • Camp Ayateway - March 18 to 21, 2024

  • Easter Family Camp - March 29 to April 1, 2024

  • May Family Camp - May 17 to 20, 2024

  • September Family Camp - August 30 to September 2, 2024

Garden Coordinator: POSITION FILLED

Summary of Position: Working with members of the Site and Food Service Teams, the Garden Coordinator will be responsible for assisting with all aspects of the Fircom garden and orchard, including: planting, cultivating, and harvesting the garden; cultivating and harvesting the orchard; and, leading garden-based programming for campers and guests. This position is a full-time, 40-hour per week position during the late spring and summer months. The successful candidate is required to live on site during this time period. Part of the Garden Coordinator’s job will be to keep those sneaky, hungry but oh so cute deer from breaking into the garden! :-)
