Volunteer Work Weekends

Volunteer Work Weekends are a great way to lend a hand while making new Fircom friends. It’s the best weekend getaway around - water taxi, accommodation and food are all included!

Many hands make light work!
To speed through big tasks, Fircom organizes volunteer parties where Friends of Fircom help us tackle specific projects. These types of volunteer parties typically happen in our off season, which runs between October and April. Specific dates are provided below.

Potential jobs range in intensity and no specific skills are needed. Examples of jobs include:

  • Site cleaning

  • Wood chopping

  • Garden work

  • Painting

  • Site repair and maintenance

Come to share your knowledge and learn a little from someone new.

Fircom provides warm, comfortable accommodation and covers the cost of water taxi and meals. Volunteers can expect to put in at least five to six hours of work per day, leaving lots of time for relaxing meals, games and campfires in the evening.

SPRING VOLUNTEER WEEKEND
March 6-8, 2026

We welcome you to join us on site for our annual
Spring Volunteer Day/Weekend!

***Registration Required***
Registration Opens February 7, 2026 at 10am.

This volunteer weekend is a wonderful opportunity to connect with others, enjoy time in nature, and eat delicious meals! A campfire on Saturday evening (complete with S'mores!) will also be offered.  We know life is busy, so this Spring, 2026, we are offering…

two options for our volunteers:

1. Saturday, March 7 - ONE FULL DAY at Camp Fircom: 12 participants

2. Friday - Sunday, March 6-8. WEEKEND in Cottage for 12 participants, 2 persons per room.

We will be working together in community to accomplish a number of tasks that will prepare us for the upcoming operating season. Some tasks we will engage in together (i.e., wiping down watercraft and carrying them down to Canoe Cove). For others, we will form teams to 'divide and conquer'!

Team tasks will include, but are not limited to:

  • Tidying up and weeding in the garden and labyrinth

  • Tightening the bunk bed frames in Craigcroft and Cabins

  • Power washing decking and other surfaces

  • Deep clean of Upper Jubilee hall

  • Wiping down walls and doors

  • Chopping/splitting firewood

  • Cleaning windows

  • Trail maintenance

Our expectation will be for participants to volunteer for six hours on Saturday and if staying until Sunday, for three hours on Sunday morning. The rest of the time will be set aside for relaxing and enjoying time in nature and with one another.

Our 12 volunteers that stay Friday and Saturday night will be housed in our comfortable Cottage accommodation. All rooms are double-occupancy, so expect to share a room with another volunteer. If a friend or partner is joining you, we will be sure to assign you to the same room. Enthusiastic teens from our community that are 16yrs+ are welcome to join with a parent. Otherwise, this weekend is for adults only. Thank you for your understanding.

Friday, March 6th water taxi time: Our 12-seater water taxi will depart Horseshoe Bay at 5:30pm. Please arrive on the dock near the white hut no later than 5:15am and meet the group near the white hut on the end of the dock.

Saturday, March 7th water taxi times:
For those 12 people volunteering for Saturday, the water taxi will depart Horseshoe Bay Public Dock at 9:00am (please meet your group at 8:45am beside the white hut at the end of the dock). After all your awesome support, the water taxi will depart Fircom at 5:30pm, and you will be back to HSB by 5:50pm.

Sunday, March 8th water taxi time: Our 12 weekend volunteers will depart Fircom at 2:30pm, and arrive in Horseshoe Bay by approximately 2:50pm.

MEALS:

For volunteers staying the whole weekend: Dinner will be ready for you Friday upon your arrival. On Saturday you will be served breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks, and Sunday you’ll be served breakfast and lunch.

For volunteers arriving and departing on Saturday: A snack, tea and coffee will be ready for you upon arrival, a hot lunch mid-day, and a snack mid-afternoon.

What to bring with you:

  • Sleeping bag and/or blanket (we will provide fitted sheets & pillows with pillow cases)
