Circle of Love - Spotlight
At the recent Circle of Love: Single Mom & Kids Retreat, Fircom Magic unfolded in a beautiful way.
Because many families chose not to share photos publicly, we are sharing one story instead. It offers a glimpse into what becomes possible when mothers and children are given time, space, and community.
Belonging is not something many single mothers experience easily. The weight of responsibility can be constant and unseen.
At camp, there was space to exhale.
Reena attended the retreat with her two daughters. It was their first time at Camp Fircom.
Over the weekend, she and her girls entered into the rhythm of camp life along with 16 other moms and their children. Shared meals. Singing and dancing. Weaving. Campfire at sunset. A candlelit dinner with handwritten notes from their children. Art in the dark. Conversations that moved quickly from introductions to real stories.
After returning home, she wrote:
“The days my girls and I spent at Camp Fircom were magical. I made new best friends. I cried hearing their stories, and they cried hearing mine. The Land is magical. I felt I truly belonged.”
Reena also spoke with deep appreciation for the leadership and care that shaped the weekend. She described Terra as “such a wonderful facilitator, so authentic, with contagious laughter,” and shared how the entire team made her family feel welcomed and supported.
She also reflected on how the pace of the weekend affected their family:
“They gave us something we didn’t even know we needed: time to slow down, rest, breathe, and just be together. The land, the ocean, the trees, the rhythm of the days, all of it felt incredibly grounding and nourishing.”
On Sunday morning, the mothers were invited by Neerava to spend solo time in nature and reflect on a simple but powerful question: Who am I without all my roles? Reena later shared that this question stayed with her long after she returned home. It is still unfolding and deepening.
“There was something really beautiful about being held by both nature and community at the same time. It felt safe, gentle, and deeply connecting, for me as a mother, and for my girls as children.”
Her daughters were deeply impacted by the camp counsellors, the songs, and the spirit of camp life.
Reena shared how much her girls were inspired by Worm, Otter, Pigeon, and Sprout. The daily songs. The laughter. The care. The sense of purpose.
And then something remarkable happened.
Her daughter Noor found her North Star.
Reena wrote that the counsellors “have given my daughter, Noor, a North Star.” Noor has already decided that one day she is going to be a camp counsellor.
For a child to see who she might become.
For a mother to witness that spark.
That is lasting impact.
Reena also expressed heartfelt gratitude for the scholarship that made it possible for her family to attend. Being able to say yes without financial stress meant everything to her.y:
“This allowed us to say yes without stress, and I don’t take that lightly at all. I am so, so grateful.”
This is why Circle of Love exists and what joy and wonder look like in real time.
Sometimes one family’s story says it all.
