Fircom's COVID-19 Notice #5

Dear Friends of Fircom,

We hope you are continuing to stay safe and healthy, and that you are taking the time to connect with nature in your own communities. We miss having you here at camp and look forward to the opportunity to welcome you to our beautiful site (in whatever capacity we are able to operate!) once we enter Phase 3 of the BC Government’s ‘Restart Plan’. As Phase 2 does not include organizations like Camp Fircom, we will be extending our suspension of operations until Friday, June 12th. In the meantime, our team is tackling our ‘to do’ list at a rapid rate to prepare for your arrival … our garden and accommodations are looking great!

Our Leadership Team has been busy planning for a variety of operating scenarios and working on our COVID-19 Safety Plan. It is our understanding that summer camp-specific recommendations from our provincial health authority will be released by the end of May. This will help us make an informed and final decision about whether or not we can operate our summer camp programs. Let’s keep the ember of hope burning that our traditional camp experience is still a possibility!

As mentioned in our previous notice (Notice #4), we are also exploring other ways that we can invite families to join us here at camp in a safe and responsible way this summer. We have crafted a plan for family vacation rentals and inclusive packages for weekend stays if our summer camp programs are able to operate. We also have a plan for mid-week stays if we are unable to operate our summer camp programs. Camp Fircom’s ability to operate in a ‘vacation rentals’ capacity will be based on industry-specific recommendations and guidelines from our provincial and local health authorities for hotels, resorts and campgrounds. We hope to share more information about these vacation opportunities in early June, when Phase 3 of BC’s economic restart is intended to begin (dependent upon the success of Phase 2, of course!).

If you have not done so already, we encourage you to follow us on Facebook and Instagram to both receive updates on some of the projects we have been working on here at camp and to keep the spirit of Fircom alive in your hearts. Speaking of camp spirit, this Thursday, May 21st at 7:15pm, we will be hosting our fourth virtual campfire on the Zoom Video Conferencing platform. The Zoom link to join our virtual campfire will be available on our Facebook and Instagram accounts tomorrow afternoon. We hope that many of you will be able to join us!

With warm wishes for connectedness,

The Fircom Leadership Team & Board of Directors
